Elston Avenue should be totally redeveloped into a 10 mile park. Running from the Chicago Blue Line past Bryn Mawr.
-Eliminating duplication of NW route served by Milwaukee Ave. -Alleviating traffic congestion pain points at redundant 6-angle intersections -Creating significant usable community and green space real estate for Chicago residents -Improving the value of Chicago's northwest riverfront -Reclaiming vast empty lots along the avenue for fields, dog runs, parks, fountains, gardens, local foot traffic service business storefronts and gathering places -Enhancing desirability of residential living in a vacuous stretch of city Please provide feedback and additional clarifications to make this idea applicable and implementable. Ideas like this are visionary leadership. Recycling and seminars are nice and all, but let's really move the needle. |

Elston is one of my favorite efficient--if not most scenic--bike routes into and out of Downtown. The Active Transportation Alliance(activetrans.org) is one of the best sources of information and action for developing and redeveloping spaces for bikers and pedestrians. They've been doing it for a long time and have a lot of success to show for their efforts. They also work with green space folks on efforts to bring more green space to the city.
