The area sustains more than 150 varies of native plants and the landscape is dramatic. This is a 77 acre preserve with an interpretive trail, a walkway along the buffs that rise 70 feet over the beach. There is signage to help learn about the local ecology. The Openlands Lakeshore Preserve is open from 6:30 a.m. to sunset. The Openlands Lake Shore Preserve is in the town of Fort Sheridan located 25 miles north of Chicago. From North Sheridan Road, park on Lyster or Westover and proceed east by foot to to reach the top of We can organize a tour for the group by contacting Openlands.org if we would like.
