Jens Jensen Harmonious World (Rough-Cut Screening & Input Session)

This location is shown only to members

A FILM SCREENING OF A ROUGH CUT: The filmmakers want your opinions to help complete their film!

"Jens Jensen Harmonious World" is an hour-long documentary for PBS by Carey Lundin and Mark Frazel of Viva Lundin Productions, based in Chicago.

In the early 20th century, visionary landscape architect Jens Jensen was green before the word ecology even existed. He lead and won early battles to conserve quickly disappearing native land and what would become the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Highly ethical and inspired by nature, he created landscapes for Chicago's working poor filled with "clearings" to clear the mind of the mania of the city. His initial triumph, the "American Garden," was designed to express America’s natural democracy and to give Chicago a style all its own. He became the most popular landscape architect in America next to Olmstead, designing hundreds of landscapes for wealthy industrialists, schools, universities, roads and finally his own school.

Jensen's message of CONSERVATION is as fresh today as it was a century ago. Yet he is barely known out of landscape architecture circles. The film will help Americans better appreciate what landscape architecture is and how the early fight for conservation was won through design and vision as much as politics.

This film is definitely a work-in-progress with further research and funding needed to complete it. We saw short snippets of film clips but it's not nearly close to being considered a feature film - by no means. However, it was interesting to hear how they are gathering archival research material and trying to structure a documentary. Hopefully, it should air on PBS but when is the great unknown.
